Findings

Over the course of my ethnographic fieldwork, social, cultural, managerial and material elements proved to be at the forefront of the project actors’ and artists’ preoccupations and interests: from the project deadlines, to its activities, the networking relations, the new Purulia chhau dance choreographies. In order to give justice to these concerns, I organized my thesis accordingly to the analysis of the project network itself, with each chapter beginning with a picture simbolising the respective networking relations and it main artefacts. The research raises the need to address questions of contemporary economic and social ‘development’ that have cultural expressions (in this case folk dance) at their core to combine ‘global’ initiatives (UNESCO, for example) with processes at the village level.
